An Evolving Life. Staying Sane
Staying Sane
Eight months into the pandemic and just nine days to go before the election, it’s getting more challenging to keep the focus on daily life and basically stay sane.
While I’ve done surprisingly well coping with all the restrictions and little social contact beyond Zoom meetings, not far below the surface lurks the fear: what comes next?
I wasn’t completely aware of how fearful I am until the other evening when I was walking my dog around dusk and ran into a couple who live just a few blocks away.
“Let’s get together on election night,” they suggested. We haven’t socialized in months.
“Election night?” I shuddered. “I don’t know,” I responded. “I might have a nervous breakdown. Do you really want to see that? I might look together on the outside; but it’s another story on the inside.”
Walking away, I was surprised at my own response. I thought I was doing so well. Painting outdoors up until last week had kept me sane. But the weather is changing and who knows how often I will be able to continue?
Here’s my latest watercolor, Jetty, painted at the Shinnecock Inlet in Hampton Bays. More and more I realize how creating the sense of calm in this series has soothed me. I hope it soothes you too...
