An Evolving Life. Red Sister.

Red Sister

Away on vacation this past week, I was determined to relax and block out the news that has been relentlessly disheartening this winter. I also tried to put aside my creative work—toting my camera just one day of the seven to the Mary Selby Botanical Gardens, a horticultural gem on Sarasota Bay.

Just before I hopped onto the shuttle that carried us to the garden, some spiky plants with flashes of hot pink lined up in front of the hotel caught my camera’s attention. I didn’t give the plants another thought until I arrived home to the news that Elizabeth Warren had dropped out of the presidential race.

After the others gave up the fight just before and after Super Tuesday leaving Warren as the only woman (of six) still standing, I expected her to follow suit. But when I saw those words crawl across the bottom of the TV screen Thursday morning, my heart sank.

It’s 2020 and still not the right time for a woman to lead us here in the United States despite the fact that women rule and have ruled in Europe, South America, Australia, New Zealand, Asia and the Mideast.

Then I recalled the one image I created with my SPLASH technique when I was trying not to work in Florida, and I was heartened. On our tour of the Selby garden back in Sarasota, I found out that the spiky pink plant is called Red Sister.

Someone somewhere is trying to tell me that our time will come, that we have to line up and wait yet again…
