“Hey Bear, it’s Andy. Sorry to bother you so late, but do you still have your connection with the mobile carriers?”

 “I do. What do you want me to find out?”

 “See if the Fire Marshall and Bailey ever talk.”

 “You got it.”

 “Thanks Bear! Let me know.”

 Denton had been anxious to close the case and the curtain he had been curious about was just left to go out with the rest of the debris. Bailey was from back east, like Merton, arrived around the same time Bear had said. Seemed to know things about Merton. Taylor knew the connection was there, but what was it?

 Around noon, Bear called. “Andy, they do talk. Actually just the last few days, nothing before.”

 “Thanks my friend, that is just what I expected to hear.”

 Andy was back on the phone, he called the Fire Marshall this time. “Denton, I need to ask you a few questions if you don’t mind.”

 “Sure Sheriff, what can I help you with?”

 “You ever stop into Bailey’s at all? Do you know the guy?”

 “No, I can’t say I do. I try to avoid greasy spoons.”

 “Marshall, listen to me, you can either talk to me now, or talk to me in a court of law. Your preference.”
