A LOVE STORY. In four parts. Part 3

Something is wrong. Something feels wrong.
He lays on the sofa every night, smoking a joint, staring into space and playing the same song over and over.
She knows the song and if she was older, and less naive, she’d figure it out.
But she isn’t and she can’t. Or perhaps she doesn’t want to.
See her go from the kitchen to the living room, quietly.
She asks, no…she makes it a statement…sometimes I feel like you don’t love me anymore.
And he looks up, stares into her face, and says I’m not sure I do.
This is not what she was expecting to hear.
See her walk into the kitchen, how deliberately she takes a knife, the biggest one, and calmly walks back into the living room.
She is going to stab him.
Yes, and why not.
Of course he pulls the knife from her, he’s over 6 feet tall, and much stronger.
And he has no intention of dying.
After all, his life might just be starting.
Silly man.
See her calm down, and that’s when he tells her there’s a woman he’s been seeing, and he’s confused, he’s very confused.
I told you earlier girl, watch out.
She cries. He doesn’t. He looks off into space, his favorite place lately.
And in the morning he tells her he needs a break, he can’t be here until he knows what he wants.
Really?
He moves out to figure it out.
How does she explain this to two young children.
Told you girl, watch out, watch out.
