A North Fork Fall Sunday

A North Fork Fall Sunday

Sunday on the North Fork

What are you doing on this gorgeous Sunday? Here is a quick update of what is happening around town and some things we are considering for today or perhaps later this fall.

Walk in Orient State Park. Drive east as far as you can go. It's just west of the Cross Sound Ferry. No admission fee after Labor Day. There is a 2.5 mile roadway where walkers (or bicyclists) have gorgeous pristine views on either side. You can definitely get your "zen" on here. There are markers along the road so you can plan your manageable distance easily.

Greenport Village. A walk around the village with stops on Front Street at Burton's Bookstore (really great bookstore, independent and locally owned!) Aldo's Coffee Company for the most delicious coffee, biscotti, scones. And definitely bring some home with you! The coffee is freshly roasted on premises, you will see and smell—it’s divine!

Just South of Front Street--where you catch the Shelter Island Ferry (on 3rd Street) is the East End Seaport Museum and Marine Foundation, always worth poking your head inside for a visit. It's a wonderful, authentic thumbnail of Greenport's Whaling Heritage and Seaport History.

Stop in at Ellen's on Front for a casual and delicious lunch or dinner. (See our previous review here. It's still great.)

And of course the carousel if you have kiddies. Greenport has benches along the public areas facing the waterfront. Lovely to sit and watch the seaport activities and the world go by.

Other afternoon excursions--not to be missed, in Cutchogue, is the Fictional Narratives of Three Artists Exhibit at the Alex Ferrone Gallery, 25425 Main Road. It's amazing. Click here for more information.

Then of course there is still time to choose the perfect pumpkin. I also heard through the gardeners' grapevine that GardenWorx, new this fall in Aquebogue, has beautiful, large mums... 5 for $20.

The multitude of incredible farm stands and vineyards all over the North Fork are calling.

And then maybe an early dinner... the North Fork Table on the Main Road in Southold is special... just sayin'. But if you are already westerly--Grana (Jamesport) is casual and great, and we hear Barrow Food House (Aquebogue) is excellent.

Whatever your pleasure, magical memories are waiting to be made this Fall on the North Fork.
