Days With Daisy

Days With Daisy. 9 Weeks Old.

And the simple pleasures of life.

People have been calling, emailing, texting for Daisy reports, and several of my friends and cohorts have asked me to start a series about her acclimation to life in Sag Harbor. I said I would try-- but also will keep it in the spirit of Hummingbird, thus the subhead, And the simple pleasures of life. Also without a doubt, each will be just a little more than a snippet. As a former CEO advised me as I was on deck to report to the Board, “Double Bs. Be Brief.” And so I shall.

OK, so how much do we love Daisy? A whole lot. She is amazing. Adorable, smart, determined, confident, with a touch of "puppy evil." My friend who is a vet calls her a little gremlin, so cute on the outside, and then that evil streak that comes through and thankfully recedes after a long nap. (Hmm. Kind of like people.) The breeder calls this age puppy "shark-a-doodles." Just so you don't think I am biased, her vet, at her 9 week visit, stated that, "She brings a new level of adorable to my practice." Who am I to disagree?

Daisy at 5 weeks, the day we chose her.

In a nutshell, she loves everyone and smothers each person that picks her up with kisses. She is doing very well in house training us. She marauds our home for mischief, trouble, and things to chew on when she is feeling evil. She plays and plays until she "sacks out" and I mean sacks out-- like a sack of potatoes. She plays with her "stuffie" friends like they are real. Oh my goodness, does she beat them up. Yesterday, having had her 9 week inoculations, we took her for the very first time to this little puppy park in our community. It's just a small lawn with border gardens around it. She played with a Shar Pei named Dino. Soon she will be able to walk there on a leash, but she's still a little young for that.

And today, because I was working outside on our deck so I didn't have to be watching Daisy every moment, I had the distinct pleasure of sitting perfectly still as our first hummingbird visited our deck garden this summer. It is thrilling in every way. They love our lantana! And, the monarch butterflies are here. Ah, life is good.

More Daisy to follow.
