Lamb with Mint BBQ Sauce

Have you been looking for something different to prepare for your Passover or Easter holiday dinner? Jay Miller's Mint BBQ Sauce is just the answer for grilled or oven roasted lamb.

3/4 cup ketchup
2 tbsp. cider vinegar
2 tbsp. Worchestershire Sauce
1 tbsp. brown sugar
1 tbsp. dried mint  (you can alternately use 2 tbsp. fresh, chopped mint)
1/4 tsp. cayenne (more if you like spicy)
1/8 tsp cinnamon

Combine ingredients in a sauce pan, heat and stir until well-mixed.  Coat lamb with 1/3 of sauce and let it sit at room temperature for 30 minutes.  Do not marinade for longer as it will overpower the flavor of the lamb. Continue to brush lamb with sauce while grilling.  Serve remainder hot with meal.

Serves 6

Lamb chops or butterflied, trimmed and boned leg of lamb are both delicious prepared with this sauce over a medium-hot grill or, alternately oven roasted at 425 degrees.  Cooking times will vary, but you can estimate 20 minutes for the leg of lamb and 8-10 for the chops on the grill, total time turning once;  and 25 minutes and 15 minutes in the oven respectively for medium and rare.  Let the leg stand loosely covered with foil for 15 minutes, and the chops for 5 minutes before serving.
