Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father's Day!

Celebrating all the fathers out there.

 Happy Father's Day!

This post goes out to all the fathers out there, but also to all of us who are celebrating and/or thinking about our own fathers.  It’s always good to have a reason to reflect, right?  Fathers today play a much different role than past generations. When I was growing up, our fathers were seemingly always working;  children ate separately before their fathers got home on weekdays.  Fathers were fun and funny.  They also felt free to yell, and were often the parent that doled out the punishments.  It was a mixed bag.  When I think of the best things about my father I remember the funny dancing, his love of music, his love of conversation, his intelligence, his love of literature, politics, poetry and golf.  And, his love for our family.

I commend fathers of today for stepping it up.  I see the young fathers I know being much more involved in the day to day with their children.  I think it’s great and such a positive evolution of the role.

I would be remiss if I didn't use this this platform to say that we need even more.  We need you to demonstrate and teach your sons and daughters how to treat women respectfully and equally.  Your sons, daughters, wives and mothers are depending on you to help change the world in this regard.  You truly are the “Supermen!”

Hummingbird asked Lynda Bernard to pay tribute to the fathers in our lives with quotes about Dads, and some familiar things you can hear your father say.  Prepare to be amused.  --Sandra Novick
