Mom-pleaser Mother’s Day Cocktails!

While we wouldn’t want to say that cocktails make the occasion, one would be hard-pressed to argue that they don’t oftentimes provide the much needed thirst-quenching & lubrication that family get-togethers require.

Food Network to the rescue!!

It was too difficult to decide between these two favorites, so we are providing both for your Mother’s Day pleasure. Salut! And Happy Mother’s Day to all the Nurturers out there!!

Raspberry-Orange Sparklers

1 C fresh raspberries

1/2 C mint

1/2 C sugar

1/3 shot per drink of orange-flavored vodka (0.5 oz)

Sparkling white wine, prosecco, or champagne

Pulse first 3 ingredients in a food processor, reserving a few raspberries and mint leaves aside for garnish. Allow to sit for 10 minutes, giving an occasional pulse. Strain through a mesh sieve.

For each drink, add a few ice cubes, 1/3 shot of pureed fruit, 1/3 shot of vodka, and top with sparkling white wine. Garnish with a couple of berries and/or mint leaves.

Makes approximately 6-8 drinks

Grapefruit Spritzers

1/3 C sugar

1/3 C water

1 bottle dry white wine

1 C ruby red grapefruit juice

1/4 C Compari

3C Seltzer

Raspberries and/or sliced grapefruit for garnish

Make a simple syrup by bringing the sugar and water to a simmer in a small saucepan to dissolve the sugar. Remove from heat and allow to cool completely (about 20 minutes at room temperature).

Combine white wine, grapefruit juice, Campari and simple syrup in a pitcher and refrigerate until serving. To serve, fill a glass with ice, pour cocktail mixture into glasses, leaving room to top with seltzer. Garnish with fruit and your drinks are ready!

Makes approximately 6-8 drinks
