Vintage.

Vintage.

When scrolling through my Facebook newsfeed this morning, this image by my friend and colleague Jim Lennon, photographer extraordinaire, stopped me dead. Stunning, retro, so, so vintage. It instantly brought me back in time, remember…?

Later today, when I reached out to Jim we emailed about the serendipity of Vintage meeting Vintage meeting Vintage—the car, the photograph taken with a film camera using KODAK slide film, and well Town Beach in Southold—it’s hard to get more Vintage than that.

The border around the photo is the edge of the cardboard that the slide is mounted in.

From Jim:

At a little over 17 feet long 6 1/2 feet wide and just a bit over 4 feet tall with a top speed of 120 miles an hour and enough torque to tow your house around the block, steering was so loose you actually didn’t really steer it, you kind of aimed it in a general direction and hoped it went there. Nicknamed the “Jetbird” the 1964 Thunderbird really took you back to what it was like in a somewhat luxury automobile at the time of the 1964 Worlds Fair. Gave mine up a little over 10 years ago, here it is pictured at Town Beach in Southold looking like the “60s” vintage setting that it should. Post inspired by a conversation with my cousin Anthony last night.
