Just Folks. Happy Third Birthday Hummingbird!

It’s hard to believe that it has been three years since we launched thehummingbirdpost. We’ve published more than a thousand posts, and had 32,000+ “visits” with nearly 70,000 page views!! Thank you Tina Folks for your kind words. Many thanks to all of our contributors—it has been a joy-- mainly — although in the spirit of true transparency, I have asked myself on a number of occasions, “And why, again, am I doing this?”

And here I have my answer. Our mission when we all joined forces remains solid and true. Stay tuned for a more in depth report of where we are in all of this, by the numbers and audience trends. In the meanwhile, how great to celebrate with a slice of Tina’s Rainbow Cake. Happy 3-year Anniversary Hummingbird!! Thank you Hummingbird readers for sticking with us and telling your friends to check us out. It has been a remarkable experience. We couldn’t do it without you!!! Sandra Novick

Happy Third Birthday Hummingbird!

It has been so much fun being a contributor to thehummingbirdpost since it's inception in 2017! It was only three years ago that I started sketching again ( since my childhood) and posting my work on Instagram when Sandy took notice. Eventually, during a phone conversation, Sandy shared her vision with me about creating a blog that featured emerging writers and a few visual artists and invited me to become a contributor. She even offered me my own column called JUST FOLKS. This was an incredible opportunity that I never saw coming and one for which I will be forever grateful!!

All along the way, Sandy has always given me free reign to come up with ideas that I was interested in, while encouraging me to stay true to my own style and vision as an artist and contributor. Sandy continues to be a wonderful mentor for me. Although meeting deadlines and producing the work has not always been a "cake walk," I have learned a few things. Meeting deadlines caused me to let go of "perfectionism" because there's no such thing. What a relief! It's time to move on, because the next idea is waiting to be hatched. Accepting this fact made it easier and more joyful for me to stay curious about my surroundings as I continue to be a life-long learner. I've gotten into the habit of carrying a notebook or sketchbook with me regularly, because some of the best ideas seem to come while driving, installing wallpaper or doing laundry. Ultimately though, having a destination for my work along with an audience of readers who follow me, fills me with a sense of purpose. And this I'd say, is the icing on the cake! Thank you Sandy Novick and the Hummingbird Post!
