FEATURED REVIEW
Three Days in June
by Anne Tyler
Anne Tyler's most recent novel, Three Days in June, is narrated by central character Gail Baines, mother, daughter and the assistant head-mistress at a private school… until she is summarily “passed over’ on the first pages. Set in Baltimore over the wedding weekend of her daughter, the book explores Gail's somewhat dysfunctional relationship with her daughter, Debbie, and Gail’s truly unique ex-husband Max, before, during and after the wedding. Truths, current and past, unfold during the weekend in Anne Tyler’s signature style, revealing how tenuous relationships can be but also how resilient the human spirit is. This is an Anne Tyler “love story,” with all its warts and beautiful moments, and a surprisingly happy ending. And, there is a cat. Rescued too, like all of them.

So many books, so little time. Right, right - we’ve all heard it many times. Hummingbird's new BOOK SHORTS will present book reviews you can read in a minute and capture the essence of the story, thumbnail reviews that hopefully will entice you into your next read. I read constantly. My tastes vary, so I’ll review books that I love, not necessarily current books. Other HB contributors will review books that follow their interests, both newly published and past. All in all, we’ll review books we think are captivating, compelling, unputdownable. If you’re looking for a good book to take to the beach, make that long commute shorter, or curl up with, hopefully our reviews will help you find it. Lynda Bernard
