The New Pope Has Been Chosen

Habemus Papa. We Have a Pope.

In this world of turmoil and conflict, confusion and commotion, hate and bloodshed, something so important and monumental has taken place. In 2 days, the Conclave has decided. They followed tradition, they followed the rules, they didn't change it up because... well who knows if they could. One hundred thirty-three cardinals elected a new pope to lead the world’s 1.4 billion Roman Catholics.

I am not Catholic, and do not consider myself to be religious, but I think this is some amazing commentary regarding the importance and power of strong beliefs and people of diverse opinions pulling together. Don't get me wrong, I am well aware of abuse, misogyny, exclusion, and other hateful acts throughout history and currently in the name of religion. But there is something to be said for leaders having the ability to pull together for the good of people around the world who depend upon them.

Pope Francis was a true leader in today's world. He didn't seek conflict, but he did not subordinate his belief in the goodness of people to those who proselytize and build consensus around evil.

We wish you well Pope Leo XIV.
