Three Wisdoms.

Three wisdoms.  A Few More Life Hacks to Make Us Feel Better.

“We can’t reach old age by another man’s road.” Mark Twain

Why do older people often have a greater sense of well-being than their younger counterparts? Good news, three very basic principles contribute to the feeling of well-being and can be applied at any age.

Arthur Brooks has some pretty insightful things to say about happiness and well-being. In his  December 18, 2025 article in The Atlantic, "What I Wish I’d Known When I Was Younger. The three reasons old people are happier that work for any age," Brooks focuses on 3 approaches that can really move that feeling of well-being needle. In a thumbnail, they are:

  • Slim down your social networks to focus on a smaller number of friends with whom you share a deeper relationship based on shared interests, passions, and more positive interactions.

  • Increase your charitable and altruistic endeavors. Give more of yourself to benefit others and the world more broadly. This could be financial, volunteer, or sharing your own expertise freely. Giving just feels good. Doing more makes one feel better!

  • Get better at avoiding and dealing with life's stresses. Sounds easier said than done, but it is truly something we know we can do, "Don't sweat the small stuff." Will this "challenge" be important in 2 weeks, 2 months, or a year. If not, don't care so much; starting now! And it's OK to avoid stressful situations! (Really? It appears so!)

Whatever your age, wishing you a fulfilling week ahead; and hold the stressful moments!
