Hummingbird Announces Contest Winner & Runner Up Stories.

Today is an exciting one at Hummingbird—as we announce the winner of the Hummingbird Emerging Writer Contest 2. Bear with me a moment as I geek out on you about some other reasons we at HB are excited about the contest. More than 500 readers accessed the contest pages—thinking about entering, submitting entries, reading the top two stories, voting. There were 200+ reads of the winning entries. How cool is that—just our second time out? AND the best, is the number of excellent stories that were submitted. Which leads me to the business at hand.

The top two stories were exceptional. Each “tackled” the requirement -- to feature a “resolution” of some kind, in any context – in a very different way. Both stories were compelling. Both stories left one wanting to read more from its author.

Congratulations to Susan Perretti, author of the winning story, The Promise, and to Jonathan H. Campbell, author of the runner up story, The Man Over His Shoulder.

As author of the winning story, Susan Perretti is invited to submit an additional original story for publication, per the contest rules. Hummingbird looks forward to publishing and promoting Susan’s new piece.
