Emerging Writer Contest 3 Winner(s) Announced.
Hummingbird Announces Contest Winner & Runner Up Stories.
“Prideful” is an understatement regarding the feeling we have as we announce the winners of the Hummingbird Emerging Writer Contests. Each contest has built on the prior. We have pushed off from our starting point when fewer entries were submitted and votes were hard to come by. Contest 2 was respectable, but we sweated out the wait for a broader field of entries. Contest 3 took off immediately. We had twice as many entries as we received for Contest 2, nearly 600 page views including the Contest Page and 250 reads of the two top stories. Three times as many HB readers voted for their favorite story!! We believe that the quality of the top two stories speaks for itself. Both of these stories and their authors are winners!
The top two stories were extraordinary. One “tackled” the subject of the toll of gun violence from a unique and compelling perspective. The other captured one of those “extraordinary ordinary moments” that pulls hard on the heart strings, evoking the reader’s own special memories. And, as with all good writing, both stories left you wanting more.
Congratulations to Kit Storjohann, author of the winning story,WOUNDS, and to Helene Hahn, author of the runner up story Ordinary Moments.
As author of the winning story, Kit Storjohann is invited to submit an additional original story for publication, per the contest rules. Hummingbird looks forward to publishing and promoting Kit’s new piece.
THANK YOU Hummingbird Readers for making this such a successful contest, and for supporting the Emerging Writers among us. We are thrilled with our Emerging Writer focus and how this aspect of Hummingbird continues to evolve. Also, many thanks to the HB panel of contributors that serves as the initial screening jury for all of the entries we receive. They devote their time and expertise so that we can present two finalist stories to the Hummingbird Readers. More to come!
