Favorite Restaurants. American Beech.
Last week, we had a nice surprise at American Beech in Greenport. We have been there several times prior, but for one reason or another, it hadn’t yet made our “favorites” list. It does now. The food was delicious, the service friendly and professional, the atmosphere upbeat and unpretentious. American Beech has a nice, comfortable bar, and does a good bar business. It was busy last week. People enjoy drinks, and also dining at the bar and its nearby tables. We sat in the back room, as we knew we would want to talk, and it is usually quieter there.
All dishes ordered by our party were very good. We started off sharing lobster mac & cheese and roasted brussel sprouts with bacon. Dinners included pork schnitzel, sautéed tilapia, and buttermilk fried chicken. The fried chicken is a specialty of the house—it’s that good. It is served with a dipping sauce that is spicy and delicious, and salad which is light and bright. The chicken is crispy, juicy, and totally non-greasy. They have many other options—skirt steak, burgers, pasta, great salads. Drinks were good. Although not all local, their wine list features many local vineyards. Draft beers also got the thumbs up. Prices are reasonable to moderate. We definitely recommend it!
