A Gentleman in Moscow, by Amor Towles
Many of my all-time favorite reads temper before simmering. This book arguably was the summer read of 2017 so if it starts off slow for you by all means persevere. A well written, unique storyline and comic undertones make this yarn witty and fun. The setting is the Hotel Metropol in Red Square, a classic, grand, old charm hotel along the ranks of the Waldorf Astoria in Manhattan or The Peabody Hotel in Memphis. The Bolsheviks are now in charge, and Count Alexander Rostov is a young man under house arrest. The storyline follows his life as he encounters a string of characters and adventures all within the confines of his residence. The Count fashions a fulfilled existence for himself entertaining the reader along the way. This book is for various readers, male and female, serious or lighthearted. Few will be disenchanted.
