Every Now & Again
Now & Again
Every Now & Again we come across something that we instinctively “know” is very special.
The Illustrated Guide to Wildlife of the North Fork of Long Island, a collaboration of “Art in a Box” and Cutchogue-Mattituck Junior/Senior High School, is surely one of those "things." The book was researched, written and illustrated by students of Cutchogue-Mattituck Junior/Senior High School utilizing the Art in the Box painting and book publication program. Art in the Box is a 501c3 that facilitates arts education projects in partnership with communities around the world.
So, what is so special about this? The process, the talent, and the results which will be celebrated through the upcoming Student Art Exhibition and Book Launch... and you are invited!
Right here on the North Fork, ninety 8th graders participated in art classes conducted by Valentina DuBasky and Andrea Piccolo of Art in a Box, and Dina Rose, Cutchogue-Mattituck art teacher. Lori Rosato, Cutchogue-Mattituck English teacher, led the students through research and writing classes.
The result of this hands-on learning experience is a 336 full color book published by Heron-on-Hudson, Art in a Box’s publishing imprint. The Illustrated Guide to Wildlife of the North Fork of Long Island highlights arts education and conservation through a celebration of the North Fork’s wildlife.
In addition to the book launch on May 4, 2018, there will also be a Student Art Exhibition featuring 130 original water color paintings showcasing the birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, marine life, tidal and sub-tidal animals, and habitats of the North Fork. The work is impressive! Please see the gallery below which presents just a few highlights from the exhibition. The Exhibit will be on display from May 4 through May 31. All are invited to the Opening of the Exhibition and Book Launch on May 4th. Please join the community for the opening event in support of these talented and accomplished students.
