Just Folks. Summer Days #3.

Summer Days #3

For those of you who have been following my posts on Hummingbird, you know how much I love sketching and painting seasonal foods and drinks. Following up on my “Summer Days” post, which features assorted ice cream cones from my sketchbook, I developed “Summer Days #3” with summertime on my mind.

I’m continually inspired by iconic treats that evoke strong memories and engage all five senses. In Summer Days #3, I reached for the essence of summer—both present and past—through three ice cream cones, rendered in cool colors from soft pinks to vibrant greens, all resting atop crispy sugar cones. For me, each cone represents not just a frozen dessert, but a connection to our collective identity and the joy of indulging in this beloved summertime confection.

I was also responding to a whisper I felt from my father Jack Folks, who recently passed away in June. He loved ice cream. And in some way I think he helped lead me here!

Tina’s Summer Days #3 was selected to be among work featured in the new MoCA of Long Island Annual Juried Members Exhibition (Museum of Contemporary Art at the Patchogue Arts Council).
