Just Folks. Summer Days #2
Summer Days #2
For those of you who have been following my posts on Hummingbird for years, you know how much I love sketching and painting seasonal foods and drinks. Now that it’s summertime, it’s ice cream season! And I’m always reminded how ice cream, with its universal appeal, connects us all with shared experiences.
When I think about ice cream, I’m transported to sun-drenched afternoons after a day at the beach. The parking lot comes alive with the mingling scents of warm asphalt, suntan lotion, and salty ocean air. I spot the Good Humor truck parked, and children eagerly clamoring for their treats. Once a season, I still indulge in a Flying Saucer or a Strawberry Shortcake popsicle—just because.
This year, as I reflect on my memories, I can’t help but feel a gentle whisper from my father, Jack Folks, who passed away on June 14th last year. He had a profound love for ice cream, especially Rum Raisin. I like to think he had a hand in this one, guiding me as I recaptured the fleeting delight of his beloved treat in, Summer Days #2.
